The Eagle of the Delta ...

Greater Spotted Eagle (Clanga clanga) is a large and dark eagle, which is a local winter visitor in Greece. It is wintering in the large wetlands of northern and central Greece, with the Evros Delta (and the neighboring hills) being the most important wintering place. The maximum record made in Greece is 47 birds in 2008, at the roosting place close to Evros Delta.

In the recent counts of the Management Body, 43 birds were counted, which is the second largest concentration of Greater Spotted Eagles in Greece.

At European level, the population has significantly decreased in recent years and therefore the bird is listed as "Endangered".
