Another big swan concentration in Evros Delta !

Impressive numbers of swans were counted yesterday, 28/01, in the Evros Delta, in their roosting places, by the scientific personnel of Evros Delta Management Authority.

Evros Delta has been and continues to be a stable destination for wintering swans - as for many other species - offering plenty of food and safe refuge.

It is now clear that there is a significant increase in recent years in the population mainly of Bewick`s and Whooper Swans, which was also confirmed this year.

In total, 10.800 swans were counted.

Most of them were Mute Swans and the numbers of each species that were recorded are:

5.360 Mute Swans

3.645 Bewick`s

1.170 Whoopers and

645 Unidentifed (from all 3 species)

It has to be pointed out that the number of Bewick` s Swans is a record for Evros Delta and Greece.

In the same area, 450 Ruddy Shelducks were recorded and also a Crane “following” the swans.
