In the Evros Delta, I like to:

On Friday 15-01-2021, in the Evros Delta, the Mid-Winter Counts took place, by the Staff of the Management Body of Evros Delta and Samothraki Protected Areas. The Mid- Winter Counts are carried out simultaneously in many countries around the world. The total population of birds that are wintering in the wetland was estimated.

The presence of 78 Lesser White - fronted Geese stands out (among them Mr Blue that carries a satellite transmitter). Almost all the European wild population of the species is currently wintering in the Evros Delta.

A total of 54 species were observed. Ducks were the most numerous as always (Mallards, Eurasian Wigeons, Northern Shovelers, Common Teals). There were also many geese (White-fronted and Gleylags) and predators. Among others, Spotted Eagles, Osprey, White – tail Eagle, Buzzards, Marsh Harriers and Hen Harriers.

The three species of Swans (Mute Swans, Bewick's Swans and Whooper Swans) begin to increase their numbers in wetland as winter gets colder.

A lot of waders on the seaside (Little Stints, Dunlins, Curlews, Avocets, Oystercatchers and Grey Plovers).

For the end we left our favorite Flamingos which every year fill the wetland with their beauty and give it an even nicer touch in the best season of the year!

In total, more than 40,000 birds were counted!
