Autumn Observations 2012

The scientific personnel of Evros Delta Management Authority continue the recording of important bird species in Delta Evros under the Monitoring Program. Autumn progresses and the populations of waterfowl in Evros Delta are growing. The last recording was on the 1th of November, with relatively mild weather. The autumnal landscape begins to fill with ducks, swans, raptors, herons and waders, however the low rainfall of the recent months, wasn`t enough to flooding the land which usually had plenty of water…

Surprises during ringing waterfowl…

A lot of waterfowl birds already came to overwinter in Evros Delta. The Evros Delta Management Authority has already started to operate the ringing traps. Today, 30th of October, the first two Mallards Anas platyrhynchos of this season were found into the traps. The first was a first year male, trying to escape. Injured Loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta in Evros Delta

Evros Delta Management Authority personnel found a Loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta into a shallow canal of Drana lagoon. The turtle was unable to leave this canal. The animal was collected and transferred at Antheia beach in order to be released at the open sea. However, the turtle was weak and unable to swim.
